ning and dashed through Central Park, 7th Avenue, Times Square, and finished their 13.1 miles in beautiful Battery Park. It looked amazing as I watched highlights on TV and geared up for my 14 miles I had ahead of me today for my training. I decided I wanted to run across the Brooklyn Bridge today -something I hadn't done yet. But I wasn't quite sure my best route...so I headed south on the east side and treaded through many unknown parts of the city. After running an hour and 15 minutes I arrived at the Brooklyn Bridge. It was amazing...one of the best views of the city and the water. You've got to walk across it someday.Everything was great until I turned around to go back across the bridge and my iPod died and I was out of water (that I brought with me) and I was no where near home. My goal was to find a water fountain and luckily I found one and was off on my way back to my apartment. Too bad the Brooklyn Bridge is downtown and the streets are very hard to figure out...so I had some difficulty finding my way. I ended up running through China Town (probably the worst place to run because there are hundreds of vendors trying to sell you a fake purse on the narrow streets) and then it started to downpour, but I just kept running. I was a long way from home. Finally I reached a numbered street and almost three hours later, I was home. I think I ran a little more than 14 miles today.
So this is what I have learned...
What Not To Forget To Bring on a Run:
- fully charged iPod
- money (to buy extra water, food, etc.)
- metro card (might had been nice to take the subway home for the last couple miles)
- Road ID (I don't have one yet but need one in case something happened to me)
- a map (wouldn't hurt)
Another adventure to add to the list!
