I wanted my dad to still have some fun while visiting NYC for the first time...so we did several fun things including:
- Watching the Baseball All-Star Parade on Tuesday seeing All-Stars and Hall-of-Famers such as A-Rod, Derek Jeter, Yogi Berra, Bob Feller, Tommy Lasorta, Ryne Sandberg, Frank Robinson, Ozzie Smith and many more that I have no idea who they are but dad was pretty impressed.
- Walking and running through Central Park
- Taking a bus tour of Uptown and Downtown Manhattan seeing sites like Times Square, Wall Street, Ground Zero, Soho, Little Italy, Chinatown, and pretty much all the major attractions! I definitely recommend the CitySights Bus Tours if you are visiting NYC. It's a great way to see the city!
- Taking a 3-hour
boat cruise around the island passing under the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty - Eating at some great restaurants such as Tromonti's, Academia de Vino with Philip for his last night before he left for RAGBRAI, O'Flanagans, and Hot n Crusty :)
- And we couldn't leave out riding the subway system
I really appreciated having my dad here to move me in and help me get settled. And I think we both had a great time doing some of the fun tourist things too while still being a part of the "local scene"!
